Stuart Devenie

Stuart Devenie is one of New Zealand's most accomplished actors with a theatrical career spanning over three decades, in which time he has directed and acted for every major theatre company in the country having played leads in several well loved plays and television dramas. Stuart performed the lead in The Daylight Atheist by Tom Scott which was hugely successful and in 2004 he starred in Caligula, Disgrace and The Talented Mr Ripley for Auckland Theatre Company.

In addition, for Auckland Theatre Company Stuart has directed The Orderly Business of Life and The God Boy, and has performed in Ladies Night, Middle Age Spread, Take A Chance On Me, Copenhagen, Serial Killers, The Cripple of Inishmaan, Twelve Angry Men, Uncle Vanya, Molly Sweeney and ATC 2econd Unit's The Atrocity.

Stuart has appeared in many roles in numerous television dramas including Street Legal, Mercy Peak, Spin Doctors, Jack of all Trades, Hercules, Market Forces and Willy Nilly. Stuart is also one of the top voiceover artists in New Zealand.

Earlier this year, Stuart headlined Auckland Theatre Company's hugely successful tour of HATCH OR THE PLIGHT OF THE PENGUINS at the Ten Days on the Island festival in Tasmania. This was soon followed with the tour of Roger Hall's FOUR FLAT WHITES IN ITALY.

Stuart's previous works for Auckland Theatre Company include CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, HATCH, DISGRACE, CALIGULA, LADIES NIGHT, MIDDLE AGE SPREAD, TAKE A CHANCE ON ME, COPENHAGEN, SERIAL KILLERS, THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN, TWELVE ANGRY MEN, UNCLE VANYA and MOLLY SWEENEY.

From 1983 to 1984, Stuart was the Artistic Director of Centrepoint Theatre in Palmerston North. Also, he was a senior tutor at both the New Zealand Drama School and Northland Polytechnic. In 2000, he established a theatre company, Playfair Ltd, in Whangarei and enjoyed successful runs of COLD TURKEY, TAKE A CHANCE ON ME, THE GOD BOY, LADIES NIGHT and MIDDLE AGE SPREAD.

Currently Stuart is touring the highly acclaimed one man show Hatch: Plight of the Penguins around New Zealand.
